Spring Break 2014

We flew to Toronto...on a red eye...Thanks Mom!  We arrived in Toronto at 6 in the morning.  Luckily, Paw Paw was already there and she woke up early and picked us up.  We all went back to the hotel and took a nap.  Tired, so tired.

After our nap, Paw Paw took us to dim sum.  It was pretty good.  Spring Villa or something like that.  It was pretty good.  Then we went to visit Tai Paw (Great Grandma) at her home.  It was kind of like a hotel, but not.  We brought her some dim sum and she gobbled it down quick.  Ha!

I danced for Tai Paw...I did part of my tap routine.  She seemed happy about it.
Mom loves that I'm giving my performance smile....:)

4 generations!  Wow!

On our way out, we gave Tai Paw a ride to the TV lounge.  She can walk fine, but for her safety, the home makes her sit in a wheelchair.

Then we went to visit Tai Gong...

Later that night, we met up at Auntie Trudy's apartment's party room.  It's a pretty cool room.  Everyone brought food and we had a nice dinner.   2 of Paw Paw's sisters were there, Grand Auntie Mary, and Grand Auntie Annie.  Then there were Mom's cousins - Auntie Janice, Auntie Trudy, Uncle Karlock and Uncle Kevin.

Tai Paw with the kids.  Me, Brendan, Samantha, Therese, Marie, Thomas and Benjamin.

And here I am with Samantha.  She was cute and our outfits matched.  She is Uncle Kevin and Auntie Millie's baby.  Good thing she wasn't too heavy.

Went for a swim in the hotel pool.  After many years of lessons, I can now swim confidently.  It's pretty nice to be able to do that.

Late that night, Paw Paw took us for "siu yeh"...late night snack.  We had jook and chicken.  Then I had a red bean slush.  It was good.

Sunday, we had dim sum with the Grand Aunties.  It was good.  But in the crazy restaurant called Casa Victoria...It was dim sum, not burritos!  Then...we decided to go to Niagara Falls...like, right after lunch!  We figured that since it was going to rain the next day, when we originally planned to go, that going today would be better since it was "warm" and sunny.  So, off we went.  Thanks to Paw Paw for driving!

It was pretty cool.  There were still big ice chunks.  Crazy!

A different view.

Guess who made it with me...in my pocket!

Rainbow!

Okay, that looks so crazy!

Another friend who made it to Niagara Falls

The edge looks crazy scary.  So close!

It was actually pretty warm out that day, but near the falls, you could feel the ice cold air coming from the falls.  Brrr.  Once in a while, we'd be walking and it feels kinda warm...but then a blast of freezing air would come.  So strange.

Monday was Tai Paw's day to eat vegetarian, so we took her to a vegetarian restaurant.  Let's just say, I like meat.  Vegetarian Chinese food wasn't very good.  But TaiPaw was happy so we ate it.

It was really windy that day.  A storm was coming.

In Pacific Mall...A kinda dumpy weird chinese mall...it was okay.  We found some Pokemon things and Paw Paw bought me a Pichu animal and I was very happy.  Thanks Paw Paw.

Later, we feasted on Peking duck...it was really good.

Yeah, that was some good duck.

The next day we flew to New York.  At the Toronto Airport, I started playing with the ipads that were at the restaurant in the terminal.  It was really nice cuz every seat had an ipad.  Anyhow, after typing in our flight info, it said that our flight was cancelled.  I told Mom and then we had to leave.  We scrambled to customer service.  We were super lucky and got on another flight to a different airport.  Originally, we were flying into Newark, but now we were going to LaGuardia. And on an earlier flight.  Phew!  Catastrophe averted.  Our flight ended up being rather bumpy and Mom got a bit sick, but we made it and after a couple hours, Mom was fine.

The top of our hotel.

Cold and rainy and on our way to Aladdin.

But first, dinner at the Burger Joint.  Long line.  It wasn't a super long wait, but it was pretty crowded inside because the restaurant is very small.  Good thing the burgers are so good.

Lots of famous people have eaten here and signed their names on the wall behind us.

The view from our hotel room.  Lincoln Center @ 63rd and Broadway.

Lincoln Center

In front of Juilliard.  Maybe....

At Levain Bakery.  Enjoying their ginormous chocolate chocolate chip cookies.  We should have asked for them warm.  They would have been much better.  They were so big, it took me two days to finish it.

Riding the subway to the UWS (upper upper WS)

@Pisticci - one of Mom and Dad's favorite restaurants.  In Harlem.

@Intrepid.  This is the Space Shuttle Enterprise.  It's huge.

@High Line.  If it weren't so cold, it would be nice to sit and enjoy.

@Nyonya - more good food.  So good.

We have arrived at the happiest place on earth?

Oh yes, we have!

History of Pokemon

For this visit, I have agreed to walk 6 miles a day (our average on this trip)

See...walking...

9/11 Memorial

@L'Ecole

Master Chef anyone?

Enjoying our desserts.  Mmmm....it's so good.  I loved every last drop of chocolate sauce.  Another great meal.  Brendan wants to eat here everyday....

Labbit!

He kind of looks like Pokemon.  Yellow Labbit.

The Apple store on 5th Ave.  Looks super cool and has the same elevator as at the Louvre.  But it was super crowded so we did not attempt to go inside.

Our first horse drawn carriage ride.  Mom had been waiting a long time for a ride in one of these.  Very fun.  I wish they would take a different route, but they all go the same circle.

Feeding horsey a carrot after our ride.  Thankfully, he did not poop on our journey.

Hot Tamales, anyone?

Wow, they even have TJ's.  We tried to go buy some ice cream for dessert, but the line inside was INSANE.  I'd guess there were like 100 people in line.  The line snaked thru the store.

Who knew you could ride a bike with square wheels?  @The Museum of Mathematics.  It's a pretty small museum, but it was fun.  It was probably more crowded than normal since it was spring break for schools in NYC too.

Playing with tangrams.  It's harder than it looks.

I'm a tree!

Do you remember this picture?  9 years ago?

@Eataly.  It was crazy crowded inside this italian food emporium.  They had fresh pasta, fresh seafood, chocolate, gelato, cheese and more.  Plus there were 5 different restaurants inside.  Luckily, Mom scored a table for us at Manzo.  It was a good meal.

Yeah, that's good.

They even have Home Depot?!?

Getting ready to ride!

Yeah, it's time for a break already.

On our way to Toys R'Us!

Whoa!

Pure awe

Candy?  Yes!

Waiting in line for halal...

Long lines, cold, but so good.  We had it twice it was so good.

At the Met, an exhibit on old guitars.

For Auntie CC.  We made it to Laduree.  Check out the lines.
