Germany Day 5 - Burg Eltz

With the chance of rain in the forecast, we decided to ditch the plan of biking for the 2nd day.  Instead, we would drive to Burg Eltz and check out the castle that is Rick Steves' favorite in all of Europe.
First, more instant noodles and some cereal without milk.  That's how we like it anyhow.

Camping Rissbach has a petting zoo too, so we spent some time checking out the animals.

We want rabbits now.  Please.

We drive to Moselkern, park our car, and follow the signs that said Burg Eltz.  We didn't see any other signs, so ...we were in for a hike.

At least we had M&M's.....it's 4.4km to the castle...

Brendan is thinking...that's a really big escargot!

Some of it was uphill, but it was a nice hike and not at all crowded.

Ahhhh!  After 45 minutes, we made it!  It looks amazing!

We didn't know, but if we had driven a little further, we would have seen a sign for Burg Eltz PARKING....and a shuttle bus would have driven us up....oops.  Still, it was an adventure and a nicer way to approach the castle.

In the middle courtyard.  We made it just in time for the English tour, but unfortunately no pictures were allowed inside.  The tour was just the right length for the kids.

They had a nice cafe up there, so we had a quick lunch at the castle.

It was quite impressive!

Now for some rock skipping.

Look at those grapevines planted on the side of the mountain.  That's crazy.

Another castle.

Here's our campsite again.  See right behind are vineyards.

We were doing some laundry tonight, so Brendan had to wear a scarf and his pajamas....cuz his stuff was in the wash.  But we played foosball and ping pong and chased the bunnies around.

Then, off to dinner in that gate building at the end of the bridge.  Food was pretty good and the view was not bad either.
